There’s no shortage of 144Hz+ 27″ QHD (1440p) models on the market (some examples). The Dell G2724D is another model in this segment, featuring the company’s usual ‘G’ series styling. So slightly ‘gamery’ but in a bit of a subtler way than some. This includes a polygonal stand base, with dark matte materials used extensively. The bottom bezel has a shiny Dell logo with slight rainbow effect, for a little visual interest. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with fairly slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen running vertically down towards the right side (as viewed from the front).

A 27″ IPS-type panel is adopted with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. More specifically the AUO M270DAN08.C, as confirmed here. Adaptive-Sync is supported, allowing VRR technologies including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used, with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. The screen is also AdaptiveSync Display certified. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used and 178°/178° viewing angles, 8-bit colour and 1000:1 static contrast ratio specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 99% sRGB colour gamut – the manufacturer sometimes specifies this gamut even if there’s some extension beyond sRGB. The monitor includes ‘ComfortView Plus’ (TÜV Rheinland certified Low Blue Light Hardware Solution). This means the blue light peak is shifted to less energetic wavelengths, designed to promote greater viewing comfort.

The monitor offers basic HDR10 support with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, allowing it to use 10-bit colour processing but not requiring the high brightness, local dimming or generous gamut associated with a ‘true’ HDR experience. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, with caution advised as usual. The stand attaches via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA mounting provision. It offers full ergonomic flexibility, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 2.1 and 2 DP 1.4 ports. HDMI 2.1 VRR is supported, though the bandwidth is limited to HDMI 2.0 standard (144Hz max at 2560 x 1440). Some gaming-focused additions include ‘Night Vision’ which improves visibility in dark areas for a competitive edge and an on-screen crosshair.
