The Dell Alienware AW3423DW is a highly desirable monitor due to its use of OLED technology and the multitude of benefits that provides. The Dell Alienware AW3423DWF is a slightly ‘cut down’ version of this, based around the same panel but without a G-SYNC module and with a slightly lower maximum refresh rate. The monitor adopts the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ colour scheme rather than ‘Lunar Light’, dominated by dark grey matte plastic. The monitor is slimmer and lighter due to the shedding of the G-SYNC module – and presumably the associated active cooling solution (2 cooling fans) as well. Some form of active cooling is still used, however. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the central region of the bottom bezel. Customisable ‘AlienFX’ RGB LED lighting is included for the power status ring surrounding a power button towards the right side.

Dark Side of the Moon colour scheme

A ~34″ Samsung QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel is adopted with 3440 x 1440 resolution (21:9 Ultrawide), 1800R (moderate) curve and 175Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync features, including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. The monitor is also VESA AdaptiveSync Display 165 certified. A glossy screen surface with anti-reflective finish is adopted, with 1m:1 static contrast ratio specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. The monitor is factory calibrated with DeltaE <2, including a 'Creator Mode' sRGB emulation setting. The monitor uses ‘flicker-free’ illumination, with ‘ComfortView Plus’ included – which means the monitor offers reduced energetic blue light emission without compromising colour temperature, potentially aiding viewing comfort (TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution). A 250 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance is specified alongside a 99.3% DCI-P3 (~149% sRGB) colour gamut. The monitor responds to HDR10 content with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification and an additional ‘HDR Peak 1000’ setting for stronger brightness peaks. This allows the monitor to put its per-pixel illumination, 10-bit colour support and generous gamut to good use – with pulses of up to 1000 cd/m² for some eye-catching bright elements.

A 0.1ms grey to grey response time is specified. We often say to pay no attention to such figures, but OLED technology is known for exceptional pixel response times without the clear overshoot of heavily accelerated LCDs. Further ‘AlienFX’ lighting elements are included at the rear, with press shots suggesting an ‘Alien Head’ logo and 34 (denoting screen size) are the 2 zones at the rear. The ring of LEDs around the stand attachment point appears to have been dropped, though that may come with some cost/weight/size saving benefits as well. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and offers 100 x 100mm VESA mounting as an option. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and height (110mm or 4.33 inches) adjustment as well as a small amount of slant. Which is not full pivot into portrait, but allows slight re-alignment of the screen by pivoting very slightly. The ports face downwards beneath a removable cover and include; AC power (internal power converter), 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (plus upstream), 2 DP 1.4 ports, HDMI 2.0, a 3.5mm audio output. 2 further USB 3.2 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack are located at the bottom of the screen, for easy access. A 60Hz ‘4K’ UHD downsampling mode is included, meaning a ‘4K’ UHD signal is accepted by the screen – particularly useful for the Xbox Series X which requires a ‘4K’ UHD signal for HDR. The 3-year premium warranty included with the monitor covers OLED burn-in “for additional peace of mind”.

Further details can be found in this press release. A comparison with the G-SYNC model can be found in this thread. The monitor is listed for ~$1100 USD.
