Many consumers and indeed manufacturers have shifted away from TN to IPS-type panels for competitive gaming needs. The BenQ ZOWIE XL2746K continues the manufacturer’s tradition of TN-based panels for their XL series models. The monitor mixes matte black plastic with a few glossy red plastic elements. A reasonably slender matte plastic bezel surrounds the screen, with a detachable ‘Shielding Hood’ adding adjustable wings for a little privacy from prying eyes to the side. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear, towards the bottom right as viewed from the front. A wireless ‘S Switch’ controller offers an alternative method.

Detachable 'Shielding Hood' included

A 27″ TN panel is adopted, with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and matte anti-glare screen surface. A maximum 240Hz refresh rate is supported for PC users, whilst a 120Hz support for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio is specified, whilst a flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a 320 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and ~sRGB colour gamut. The manufacturer’s usual flexible and well-balanced Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included. With additional settings including a ‘Color Vibrance’ saturation enhancement slider and ‘Black eQualizer’ function to lighten up dark areas of the image for a competitive advantage.

A response time isn’t specified as the manufacturer feels they feel such measurements can be misleading – they refer to this as a ‘fast liquid crystal’ solution which is “a bit faster in native response time” compared to their previous models. DyAc+ also features, a generally well-tuned strobe backlight technology
designed to minimise perceived blur. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and affords full ergonomic flexibility, whilst 100 x 100mm VESA holes are included for alternative mounting. Including a rather generous 155mm (6.10 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 3 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Fully adjustable stand

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed with an RRP of ~$650 USD.
