The BenQ EX240 sits alongside the EX2510S as a slightly smaller-sized Full HD offering. The familiar styling elements of the series is reflected here, with a mixture of matte black plastic and a contrasting stand base with satin-finish silver plastic and an inner orange-coloured strip. The bottom bezel includes a central sensor unit, providing the ‘B.I.+’ and ‘HDRi’ functionality of the screen, with adaptation based on both the content displayed and ambient lighting. A dedicated HDRi button is located to the right. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick facing downwards in the central region of the bottom bezel.
23.8″ IPS-type panel is used, with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution, matte anti-glare screen surface and 165Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync Premium with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 8-bit colour is specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a 99% sRGB colour gamut and 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A range of Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are provided for a potentially more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, falling short of even the most basic VESA DisplayHDR certification level. This allows 10-bit colour processing to be used for a different look to things. But it doesn’t require the brightness levels, local dimming to enhance contrast or suitably wide gamut for a proper HDR experience.
A 2ms grey to grey response time is specified alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using the Blur Reduction strobe backlight setting. As we always say, don’t pay much attention to these figures. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustment (100mm or 3.94 inches). The stand attaches to the screen via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to facilitate alternative 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports are located beneath a removable plastic cover, facing downwards, and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and an AC power input (internal power converter). 2 x 2.5W TreVolo speakers are also included.
