~24″ Full HD monitors are just the right entry point into the high refresh rate market for some gamers. The ASUS XG256Q of the ROG Strix series provides this experience, with some of the usual ROG styling elements. Dark grey matte plastics are used extensively, without eye-catching colourful elements. The bottom bezel is moderately thick with a central ROG logo, whilst the top and side bezels are much slimmer with a dual-stage design. They comprise a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A 24.5” 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) IPS-type panel is used – an AUO AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle) panel more specifically. This includes support for a 180Hz refresh rate (165Hz + internal factory overclock), a medium matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and true 8-bit colour. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium with 48 – 180Hz VRR range plus LFC. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used which offers 99% sRGB colour space coverage and a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Factory calibration with a specified average DeltaE <2 is included. The monitor offers basic support for HDR10 content via VESA DisplayHDR 400. This doesn't require particularly high brightness by HDR standards, a generous gamut or local dimming to enhance contrast. But allows 10-bit colour processing to be used and provides a different look to things for a bit of variety.

Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, whilst ELMB Sync is included – a strobe backlight setting which can be used in conjunction with VRR. The screen attaches to its stand using a quick-release mechanism and can be easily removed to allow alternative mounting via 100 x 100mm VESA. The included stand provides full ergonomic flexibility, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

No RGB LEDs

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$250 USD.
