High refresh rate IPS offerings come in a range of sizes and resolutions. The ASUS VG249QM1A focuses on a responsive ~24″ Full HD IPS experience. This model has the usual rugged look associated with the TUF Gaming series. Plenty of matte black plastic, with a chunky ‘penguin-foot’ stand design and moderately thick bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A robust look

A 23.8″ IPS-type panel is used with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and 270Hz refresh rate, we believe a BOE IPS-ADS panel more specifically. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium with 48 – 270Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included with a specified 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides 99% sRGB colour space coverage and a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (caution advised), with variable overdrive featured to help prevent excessive overshoot as refresh rate drops. ELMB is included, a strobe backlight mode which can be used in place of Adaptive-Sync if you wish. The included stand offers tilt as the only ergonomic flexibility, with 100 x 100mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.
