144Hz+ QHD IPS models are highly sought-after for their all-round performance, including for gaming. The ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ3AZ provides such an experience from its 180Hz QHD IPS panel, with the usual dark matte plastic styling and rugged appearance associated with the series. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, running down the right side as viewed from the front.

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS panel is used, with a 180Hz refresh rate plus Adaptive-Sync supported. This allows VRR technologies such as AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with 48 – 180Hz VRR range plus LFC. The monitor is also VESA AdaptiveSync Display 180 certified. A matte anti-glare screen surfacee is adopted whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 8-bit colour support and 178°/178° viewing angles are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 130% sRGB colour gamut and 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Basic HDR10 support is provided, giving a different look to things with 10-bit colour processing. Though the brightness and lack of local dimming doesn’t deliver a proper HDR experience on the contrast side and the gamut is a bit limited by HDR standards.

Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included for a potentially more relaxing viewing experience. A 1ms grey to grey response time specified, with ELMB Sync also featuring. This is a strobe backlight setting which can be used alongside Adaptive-Sync, if you wish. ‘GameFast Input Technology’ is noted as a nod towards low input lag, whilst variable overdrive is also used. This aims to re-tune the aggressiveness of the pixel response times for lower refresh rates, minimising overshoot. The included stand provides tilt and swivel adjustment, without height adjustment or pivot into portrait. VESA 100 x 100mm support is offered should you wish to use an alternative mount for more flexibility. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound reproduction.
