The mixture of image quality and speed makes OLED technology particularly attractive on gaming monitors. The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM provides this experience, with a very pixel dense 240Hz QD-OLED panel. The styling is similar styling to many others in the series, with metal tripod-style stand base and a dark matte finish for most elements. The top and side bezels are ‘dual stage’ with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and thin hard outer part. An overprovisioning of pixels (active area) between the image and panel border facilitates one of the ‘OLED Care Pro’ burn-in mitigation measures called ‘Screen Move’. Another uses the ‘Neo Proximity Sensor’ which can blank out the screen if nobody is detected using it, a particularly useful feature for an OLED monitor. There’s excellent flexibility with these settings, allowing you to adjust or disable various settings that could potentially be annoying or distracting. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and two buttons behind the central protrusion on the bottom bezel. In addition to an illuminated red ROG power indicator, a down-firing ROG logo projector is included beneath the stand neck. Both features can be independently disabled, if preferred.

ROG styling

A 26.5″ Samsung Display QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel is adopted with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution, glossy anti-reflective screen surface and up to a 240Hz refresh rate. For games consoles such as the Xbox Series X and PS5, HDMI 2.1 allows up to 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD (plus HDMI 2.1 VRR) to be used. Adaptive-Sync is also supported allowing Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used on compatible PC and console hardware, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. The monitor is also AdaptiveSync Display 240 certified. A 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour are specified. ‘Flicker-free’ illumination provides a 250 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance, whilst a 99% DCI-P3 (145% sRGB) coverage is specified. The monitor includes a TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution for Low Blue Light (LBL), potentially aiding viewing comfort. A graphene film custom heatsink design is included for passive cooling which avoids an active cooling solution (fan) being required.

VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification is included in addition to multiple higher brightness HDR modes, providing a lively HDR experience. HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats are both supported. With this, the monitor can provide some high brightness peaks, whilst putting its per-pixel dimming, 10-bit+ colour support and extensive colour gamut to good use. A 0.03ms grey to grey response time is specified, with OLED technology known for exceptional pixel responsiveness. ELMB also features, a BFI mode providing 240Hz-like motion clarity at 120Hz (with various caveats including lack of VRR, HDR, restricted brightness and some flickering). At the rear, a customisable pixel effect ‘Aura Sync’ (RGB LED) ROG logo is included towards the right side. The stand is fully adjustable, including 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (48Gbps), DP 2.1 (80Gbps, UHBR20), USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data) and 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B upstream). KVM is supported, allowing easy peripheral sharing and input switching between 2 systems. The 3-year warranty included with the monitor covers OLED burn-in for peace of mind.
