Further information on supporting our work.An increase over the ‘standard’ 60Hz refresh rate can be appreciated even for productivity use. The ASUS ProArt Display PA278CFRV offers this with its 100Hz IPS panel. The monitor has the usual smart home-office design associated with the series, with satin finish silver-coloured stand neck and base and textured dark grey plastic bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons facing forwards towards the right side. An integrated ambient light sensor allows the monitor to adapt its own brightness according to lighting conditions.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used, with 100Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync support. This allows technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with VESA MediaSync certification included. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface (AGLR – Anti-Glare, Low-Reflection), 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A Calman Verified factory calibration is included with specified DeltaE <2. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified (usual pinch of salt required).
The monitor provides a basic HDR10 experience, with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. 10-bit colour processing can be used and the gamut put to good use, but brightness is limited by HDR standards and no local dimming is specified. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait – VESA 100 x 100mm support is also included. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter with ‘zero watt’ switch), a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4, DP 1.4 output (for MST daisy chaining), USB-C (96W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), USB-C downstream and 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (2 at bottom of monitor for easy access). 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound reproduction.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$380 USD.
