Some monitors are built for speed and competitive gaming, with rapid pixel responses combined with high refresh rates. The AOC AGON AG246FK is one such offering, with a 540Hz ‘Ultra-Fast TN eSports’ panel. The monitor offers a compact stand design and slender bezels at the top and sides. The design is dual-stage with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

Compact stand design

A 24.1″ TN panel is adopted with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and support for a 540Hz refresh rate. VRR is supported via Adaptive-Sync, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used, with 48 – 540Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used, with 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 8-bit colour specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight is included, offering a 94.7% DCI-P3 (99.6% sRGB) colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Basic HDR10 support is included at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level, allowing the monitor to put its gamut to good use alongside 10-bit colour processing. But not requiring a high brightness by HDR standards – and no local dimming is specified.

A 0.5ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside 0.3ms MPRT response time using the included MBR strobe backlight setting. As usual, pay little attention to such figures. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also specified. The stand is fully adjustable, including 150mm (5.91 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. Customisable ‘Light FX’ RGB LED lighting is included around the attachment point, with provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting also included. The ports mainly face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (one with fast charging, plus Type-B upstream). At the left side, as viewed from the front, there are 2 additional USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a retractable headphone hook.
