UltraWide models with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and ~34″ screen size offer a rewarding experience for both work and play. Some models offer a 38″ screen with 3840 x 1600, sharing the benefits of the aspect ratio whilst providing even greater immersion and extra desktop real-estate. The Acer XR383CUR P (XR383CUR Pbmiiphuzx) is one such offering, a member of the Predator Series with associated sharp-lined styling. This includes a powder-coated metal stand with two long feet. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, running down the right side as viewed from the front.

A wide Predator

A 37.5″ 3840 x 1600 (21:9 UltraWide) LG Display IPS panel is adopted with 2500R (gentle) curve. A 165Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync with an assumed 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. This is combined with a light matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC) is supported, whilst an sRGB emulation setting with specified DeltaE <1 is included. A flicker-free WLED backlight offers a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 450 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included, whilst the monitor responds to HDR10 content with VESA DisplayHDR 600 support. This allows the fairly generous colour gamut to be put to good use - alongside 10-bit colour processing, a 750 cd/m² peak luminance and a degree of local dimming to enhance contrast.

A 1ms or ‘up to 0.5ms’ grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual shouldn’t be given too much weight. The stand includes tilt, swivel and height adjustment. It attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to make way for an alternative VESA 100 compatible solution. The ports mainly face downwards and include; DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, USB-C (DP Alt Mode, 65W PD and upstream data) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Whilst games consoles such as the Xbox Series X and PS5 don’t natively support the resolution, they could run 16:9 resolutions such as 2560 x 1440 and 1920 x 1080 at 120Hz. And potentially use a 3840 x 2160 ‘4K’ UHD signal via downsampling, given the inclusion of HDMI 2.1. 2 USB 3.0 ports are found on the right side, as viewed from the front. 2 x 7W speakers are included for potentially quite rich and powerful sound output.
