Further information on supporting our work.The 34″ 3440 x 1440 UltraWide resolution is enjoyable for both work and play and highly sought after by some users. The Acer X34 S (X34S) and X34 GS (X34GS) offers such a screen, with an IPS panel and a focus on high refresh rate output. The aesthetics are in-keeping with the Predator series to which these products belong. A sharp-lined design with powder-coated metal stand and dark matte plastic bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a fairly slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen plus a slender hard plastic outer edge. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, towards the bottom right as viewed from the front.
A 34″ 3440 x 1440 (21:9 UltraWide) LG Display Nano IPS panel is employed. The ‘S’ model supports 180Hz via internal overclock and has a G-SYNC module for ‘full fat’ G-SYNC support. The ‘GS’ model goes up to 180Hz via internal overclock and offers Adaptive-Sync, including Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’ and AMD FreeSync. This has a VRR range of 50 – 180Hz plus LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). Both models are factory calibrated with a claimed DeltaE <2, associated with an included sRGB emulation setting. A 1000:1 static contrast, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC) is specified. The screen has a 1900R (fairly gentle) curve and a light matte anti-glare screen surface. A flicker-free WLED backlight with enhanced phosphors (‘Nano’), yielding a 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut and providing a typical maximum luminance of 400 cd/m². This can pulse further to 550 cd/m², used in conjunction with HDR10 content via VESA DisplayHDR 400 support. This also allows 10-bit colour processing to be used and for the colour gamut to be put to good use. But it doesn’t mandate local dimming or the higher luminance levels of some of the higher VESA DisplayHDR levels. A 1ms or ‘up to 0.5ms’ grey to grey response time is specified – approach with caution. The included stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustment and can be removed to make way for an alternative VESA 100 solution if preferred. Two USB 3.0 ports are found on the left side. The remaining ports on the ‘GS’ model include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 DP 1.4 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports (4 total, plus upstream), USB-C (85W PD + DP Alt Mode) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The ports on the ‘S’ model are expected to be somewhat cut down due to the G-SYNC module, we wouldn’t expect USB-C to feature on that one. 2 x 7W speakers are included on both models for potentially rich and powerful sound output.
