Significantly higher refresh rates than the ‘standard’ 60Hz can be beneficial not just for gaming but also productivity. Improving the precision you feel when interacting with the monitor and the fluidity of animations observed on the desktop. The BenQ PD3226G is built around this premise, as a ‘designer monitor’ with 144Hz refresh rate built for both Windows and Mac systems. The stand has a coated metal finish in light silver, providing a solid and premium look and feel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD is controlled by buttons which face downwards towards the right side, or alternatively using the included wireless ‘Hotkey Puck G3’ remote.

A 31.5″ IPS-type panel is used with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution, ‘nano matte’ anti-glare screen surface and 144Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync (and possibly HDMI 2.1 VRR) is supported to allow VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used, with assumed 48 – 144Hz plus LFC VRR range. A 1200:1 static contrast ratio is specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour. The monitor is factory calibrated (Pantone Validated and Calman Verified) with a specified average DeltaE ≤2. A Uniformity Compensation (UC) setting (‘BenQ Uniformity Technology’) is included to even out brightness at various points of the screen. A range of gamma settings feature, from ‘1.8’ to ‘2.6’ and including ‘sRGB’. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The manufacturer’s usual selection of well-balanced Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included, with the monitor also offering basic HDR10 reproduction at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level. The fairly generous DCI-P3 gamut and 10-bit colour can be put to good use, but the brightness is limited by HDR standards and no local dimming is specified.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, whilst a fully adjustable stand is included. This provides tilt, swivel, height adjustment (150mm or 5.91 inches) and pivot into portrait. It attaches via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports mainly face backwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4, 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data) and USB-C (upstream data only). A USB-C downstream port, 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and 3.5mm headphone jack is located at the bottom of the screen (towards left as viewed from the front) for easy access. 2 x 3W speakers are also included, alongside PiP/PbP and KVM for easy display input switching and USB peripheral sharing between 2 systems.
