Further information on supporting our work. For their mixture of speed and image quality, high refresh rate IPS models can be very attractive. The AOC AGON AG256FS provides this, with a 390Hz-capable IPS panel. The monitor includes a compact stand base and slender bezels at the top and sides. The bezels here are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 24.5″ IPS panel is used with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and support for a 390Hz (360Hz + factory OC) refresh rate. VRR is supported via Adaptive-Sync, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used, with 48 – 390Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used with specified 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight is included, offering an 84% DCI-P3 (99.1% sRGB) colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Basic HDR10 support is offered at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level, allowing the monitor to put its gamut to good use alongside 10-bit colour processing. But not requiring a high brightness by HDR standards – and no local dimming is specified.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside 0.3ms MPRT response time using the included MBR strobe backlight setting. As usual, pay little attention to such figures. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also specified. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. Customisable ‘Light FX’ RGB LED lighting is included around the attachment point, with provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting also included. The ports mainly face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (one with fast charging, plus Type-B upstream). At the left side, as viewed from the front, there are 2 additional USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a retractable headphone hook.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is released from mid-August 2024 with a ~£380 MSRP.
