Further information on supporting our work.A combination of ultra high frame rates and refresh rate can be very welcome for competitive gaming, maximising ‘connected feel’ and minimising perceived blur. The ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP provides this, with a very high refresh rate and rapid pixel responses being key focuses. The monitor uses matte black plastic extensively, with the ‘claws’ of the stand base retractable if you want to gain more space at the sides for peripherals or other desk accoutrements. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 24.1″ 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) TN panel is adopted with support for a 540Hz refresh rate (achieved via factory OC). An Nvidia G-SYNC module is included, providing a seamless 1 – 540Hz effective VRR range plus support for Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer and variable overdrive which re-tunes over a broad range of refresh rates. In line with other recent models with G-SYNC modules, AMD GPUs and systems should be able to access the module’s VRR functionality via Adaptive-Sync. Other aspects of note include a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 170°/160° viewing angles, 8-bit colour support and a matte anti-glare screen surface. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 125% sRGB colour space coverage. The monitor is factory calibrated with specified DeltaE <2. It responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. Lacking a high brightness by HDR standards or a generous colour gamut and not requiring effective (or any) local dimming. It still allows the reasonable colour gamut to be put to good use alongside 10-bit colour processing, for a different look to things.
A 0.2ms grey to grey response time is claimed, which should be taken with a large pinch of salt. The so-called E-TN panel used here is claimed to be “approximately 50% more responsive than traditional TN panels”. ULMB 2 is supported as a strobe backlight alternative to G-SYNC. The screen attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism, with VESA 100 x 100mm VESA support facilitated using an included adaptor bracket. The stand allows tilt, swivel and height (110mm or 4.33 inches) adjustment. The ports face downwards beneath a detachable port cover and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (1 coloured red for Nvidia Reflex usage) plus Type-B upstream and a 3.5mm headphone jack with ESS Codec for “Lag-Free Audio”. An Aura Sync RGB LED lighting element is included at the rear, towards the top right. The usual ASUS GamePlus enhancements feature, including on-screen stopwatch, crosshair, timer and FPS counter. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are also included, promoting a potentially more relaxing viewing experience.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$900 USD.
