High refresh rate IPS models are now ubiquitous, with some recent models of this variety providing a very nice mixture of speed and colour quality. The ASUS PG279QM is designed with this in mind. As a member of the ROG Swift series, it has distinct styling elements. Including ‘plasma copper’ (faded orange) coloured elements in the centre of the stand base. The rest of the stand base is powder-coated metal, with matte black and dark grey plastics used elsewhere. The bezels at the top and side are dual stage, with a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen and a slender hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is employed, with 240Hz refresh rate and an Nvidia G-SYNC module for a ‘full fat’ G-SYNC experience. This is the AUO M270DAN08.0 AHVA panel, more specifically. The monitor includes a matte anti-glare screen surface and offers a 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. It is factory calibrated with DeltaE <2 specified, whilst 8-bit colour reproduction is supported. The flicker-free Quantum Dot LED (Quantum Dots + blue LED) backlight offers a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance (400 cd/m² HDR) and a 97% DCI-P3 (150% sRGB) colour gamut. VESA DisplayHDR 400 support is included, for a basic HDR experience that puts the colour gamut to work and allows 10-bit colour processing to be used. It does not mandate local dimming or particularly high luminance levels, however. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified for this model - approach with caution. And it supports Nvidia's Reflex Latency Analyser (RLA) technology. The screen attaches to the stand using a quick-release mechanism and offers full ergonomic flexibility, including 100mm (3.94 inches) height adjustment. It can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes. An RGB lighting element is included towards the top right, customisable via Aura Sync software. The ports face downwards beneath a removable port cover and include; DP 1.4, 3 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound reproduction.
