As far as all-round performance on a budget goes, 75Hz Full HD IPS models can be particularly attractive. The Dell S2421H (S2421HS) and S2721H (S2721HS) are 75Hz Full HD additions to the well-known Dell S Series. The styling is much as you’d expect from modern models in this series. A simple look, with silver-coloured plastic stand neck and base and ‘dual-stage’ top and side bezels. These include a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen, plus a thin hard plastic outer component. The bottom bezel is thicker, matte black plastic with OSD controls towards the right side. Facing downwards. The manufacturer’s signature white ‘vertical slit’ power LED design is also included, integrated into the power button.

A 23.8″ (S24) and 27″ (S27) IPS-type panel is employed, with matte anti-glare screen surface. A notable departure from the glossier surface used on the S2419H, S2719H and their predecessors. The refresh rate has been bumped up to 75Hz, whilst Adaptive-Sync also features. This includes support for AMD FreeSync, with a 48 – 75Hz VRR range. A 1000:1 static contrast is specified, alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight is included, offering ~sRGB colour space coverage and a typical maximum luminance of 250 cd/m² (S24) and 300 cd/m² (S27). Low Blue Light (LBL) settings include ‘comfort view’ are included. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified using the fastest available pixel overdrive setting – as usual, take with a pinch of salt. The ‘HS’ models include a fully adjustable stand, whereas the ‘H’ models include a tilt-only stand. Both models can be mounted using 100 x 100mm VESA to an alternative stand, if preferred. The ports face downwards and include an AC power input (internal power converter) and a 3.5mm audio output. The ‘HS’ models feature DP 1.2a and an HDMI 1.4 port. The ‘S’ models feature 2 HDMI 1.4 ports and 2 x 3W speakers. Further details on the S24 models and S27 models can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The models are listed in the US for ~$150-175 (S24) and ~$190-210 (S27), with the ‘HS’ model being the more expensive for a given size. Marginally cheaper variants are also listed, the S2421HN and S2721HN which have a tilt-only stand and no integrated speakers. As are alternatives to the ‘HS’ models with darker plastics used throughout, the S2421HSX and S2721HSX.
