For a high contrast and high frame rate gaming experience, 240Hz VA models can be attractive. The Philips Evnia 27M2C5500W is one such offering, with a curved QHD panel. The monitor includes the signature marble-effect stand associated with the series, dark grey with light ‘specks’ in this case. Dark matte materials are used elsewhere. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slender hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) VA panel is used, with a steep 1000R curve designed to draw you into the experience. A 240Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync. This includes AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, whilst a 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour are specified. The monitor is factory calibrated with DeltaE <2 using the included sRGB setting. 'SmartUniformity' also features, a digital Uniformity Compensation (UC) setting that aims to even out brightness across the screen. A flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a 119% sRGB colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. VESA DisplayHDR 400 support is included, allowing the monitor to make use of 10-bit colour processing and give a different look to HDR10 content. But not requiring a particularly high brightness or wide gamut by HDR standards - or requiring effective local dimming.

‘Low Input Lag’ is mentioned, whilst a 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (alongside 1ms MPRT, using the ‘MBR’ strobe backlight setting). As usual, don’t pay too much attention to such specifications. The stand attaches centrally using a quick-release mechanism – detaching it reveals provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The stand provides tilt, swivel and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment. A headphone hook is included at the top of the stand neck, with a cable tidy closer to the bottom. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B upstream), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 DP 1.4 ports and a 3.5mm audio output. 2-device PiP/PbP is supported.
