Further information on supporting our work.27″ IPS models with 144Hz+ refresh rates are very popular, with a wide range of options available. The MSI G274QPF-QD follows in the footsteps of the much-lauded MAG274QRF-QD, with a focus on a wide colour gamut for strong vibrancy potential. The monitor offers simple home-office styling, without the overt colourful or ‘blingy’ elements of some gaming monitors. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer edge. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
The monitor uses a 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel with 170Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync support. Including Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible’, with 48 – 170Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is employed, with a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour specified. A flicker-free QD LED (Quantum Dots + blue LED) backlight provides a 300 cd/m² (400 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance alongside 95% DCI-P3, 93% Adobe RGB and 150% sRGB colour gamut. This suggests weaker DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB than the MAG274QRF-QD, though greater sRGB coverage – the measurement methodology may differ or the gamut may extend a lot in one particular region. VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification is included, allowing the monitor to respond to HDR10 content in a basic way. The wide gamut and 10-bit colour support can be put to good use, but brightness is limited by HDR standards and no local dimming is specified.
‘Less Blue Light’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included, whilst a 1ms grey to grey response time is specified – treat with the usual caution. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; USB-C (15W PD, DP Alt Mode), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). The monitor supports 1440p @120Hz output on the Xbox Series X and PS5. A ‘Night Vision’ gamma enhancement is also featured, giving a competitive edge by aiding visibility in dark areas without compromising static contrast.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$330 USD.
