Further information on supporting our work. The MSI G273QF/QPF has been well-received due to its combination of price and performance. The G272QPF is a newer iteration of this, despite the confusingly ‘lower’ model number. The monitor has a simple look, with plenty of dark matte plastics and a simple rectangular stand base. The top and side bezels use the popular dual-stage design, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used, with 170Hz refresh rate plus Adaptive-Sync support. This allows technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with 48 – 170Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and ~93% DCI-P3 (~91% Adobe RGB, ~120% sRGB) colour gamut. So a bit of extra vibrancy for standard SDR content can be provided, without strong oversaturation. Basic HDR10 support is offered, allowing the screen to use 10-bit colour processing and put its reasonable colour gamut to good use. But there’s low brightness by HDR standard and no local dimming specified to enhance contrast.
‘Less Blue Light’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included, whilst a 1ms grey to grey response time is specified – as usual, approach with caution. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. Removing the stand reveals provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The monitor supports 1440p @120Hz output on the Xbox Series X and PS5. A ‘Night Vision’ gamma enhancement is also featured, giving a competitive edge by aiding visibility in dark areas without compromising static contrast.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$280 USD.
