Further information on supporting our work.OLED monitors are highly sought after for gaming, with exceptional responsiveness and strong image quality attributes. The LG UltraGear 27GX790B-B offers this experience, with minimalistic styling rather than anything that screams “gaming monitor”. This includes a low-profile metal base plate for the stand and slim dual-stage bezels at the top and sides. As usual for an OLED, there’s also an overprovisioning of pixels (active area) between the image and panel border to facilitate one of the burn-in mitigation measures. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the central region of the bottom bezel.
A 26.5″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) LG Display ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ WOLED panel is used with 540Hz (‘Dual Mode’ with 720Hz FHD or 1080p) refresh rate and VRR support, via both Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR. This allows VRR technologies including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to be used, with 48 – 540Hz (48 – 720Hz FHD) VRR range plus LFC expected. The monitor includes a matte anti-glare screen surface and has a 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour specified. The screen is ‘flicker-free’ with 99.5% DCI-P3 colour gamut specified, alongside 335 cd/m² typical maximum luminance (1500 cd/m² HDR peak at 1.5% APL, 800 cd/m² at 10% APL). The monitor provides a dynamic HDR10 experience, allowing it to make good use of its generous gamut alongside 10-bit colour processing and some good brightness peaks. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certified – requiring higher brightness levels, including full screen white brightness, than the more common True Black 400 certification. An HDR mode with higher peak brightness is also included.
A 0.02ms grey to grey response time is specified, with OLED technology known for exceptional pixel responsiveness. At the rear, customisable RGB LED lighting strips are included. The stand offers full ergonomic flexibility, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. 100 x 100mm VESA mounting is facilitated as an alternative. The ports face backwards in a recessed area beneath the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 2.1, USB-C (DP Alt Mode, upstream data), 2 USB 3.0 ports and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’). A downwards facing 3.5mm headphone jack with DTX Headphone:X support is also included. The DisplayPort 2.1 capability (whether full UHBR20 or otherwise) is not specified at time of writing.

Further details (Chinese, requires translation) can be found on some regional websites from the manufacturer. The monitor is listed ~$1000 USD.
