OLED monitors are all the rage in the gaming space, but some may favour the all-round performance and brightness characteristics of Mini LED LCDs. The KOORUI S2741LM is one such offering, featuring a pixel dense IPS panel with 160Hz+ refresh rate. The monitor has simple styling with low-profile hexagonal stand and extensive use of dark matte plastics. HDMI 2.1 support also features, widening the appeal for console gamers and allowing 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD output on devices such as the Xbox Series S and PS5. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick which faces downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.

Simple styling

A 27” IPS panel is used with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution, matte anti-glare screen surface and 160Hz refresh rate supported at the native resolution. ‘Dual mode’ functionality allows the screen to run up to 320Hz at 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p). Adaptive-Sync is supported (and presumably HDMI 2.1 VRR), allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used, with assumed 48 – 160Hz (48 – 320Hz FHD) VRR range plus LFC. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour are specified. A Quantum Dot Mini LED backlight delivers a 98% DCI-P3 (99% Adobe RGB) colour gamut plus 550 cd/m² (1400 cd/m²+ HDR peak) typical maximum luminance and 1152 dimming zones.

The Mini LED solution provides a dynamic experience under HDR, at the VESA DisplayHDR 1400 level. It includes a range of settings which bias it more towards brightening for brighter content (‘High’), darkening for darker content (‘Low’) or a balanced setting in between (‘Medium’). The wide gamut and 10-bit colour processing can be put to good use alongside strong brightness and effective local dimming. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified using the DIC (Dynamic Image Clarity) strobe backlight setting. The stand attaches centrally and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. A ring of RGB LEDs surrounds the stand attachment point. The ports face downwards beneath a removable port cover and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), USB-C (90W PD), USB 3.0 and a 3.5mm audio output.

RGB LEDs included

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor should be available in North America from Q2-Q3 2025 for <$500 USD (source for pricing and availability).
