Further information on supporting our work.OLED technology is very attractive, particularly for dynamic content such as movies and gaming. The HP Omen Transcend 32 provides this in high pixel density ‘gen 3’ QD-OLED flavour. HDMI 2.1 is included to broaden the appeal to games console users, allowing a 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal to be used. The screen has simple angular styling with matte black materials used for the rectangular stand base, neck and bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. An ‘active area’ surrounding the image is used for pixel shifting, one of the image retention mitigation measures. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front. A dedicated KVM button and power button is also included, allowing easy USB peripheral sharing and display input switching between 2 systems..
A 31.5″ Samsung Display QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel is adopted with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution and support for a 240Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync (and presumably HDMI 2.1 VRR) is supported, allowing VRR to be used on a range of systems. Technologies such as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ can be used. A 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio is specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles. The monitor has ‘flicker-free’ illumination with a specified 250 d/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance and 99% DCI-P3 (97.5% Adobe RGB, 80% Rec. 2020) coverage. The monitor is factory calibrated with DeltaE <2 and has a specified 0.03ms grey to grey response time, but as usual pay little attention to the exact figure. Burn-in is covered as part of the 3-year warranty for peace of mind.
The monitor responds to HDR10 content with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, with additional higher brightness HDR modes included. Dolby Vision is also supported as an alternative HDR format. Either way, expect a dynamic HDR experience with the per-pixel illumination, high brightness peaks, 10-bit+ colour support and generous gamut being put to good use. The rear of the screen has a black central region surrounded by customisable aRGB lighting, with the rest of the rear light silver-coloured plastic. The stand includes tilt, height and pivot adjustment and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face backwards in a recessed area beneath the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 2.1 (UHBR10), USB-C (140W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm audio output and 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-C upstream with 15W PD). 4 x 3W down-firing speakers are included for potentially quite rich and powerful sound output.
