Further information on supporting our work.Gamers in the LCD monitor space have to pick their compromises, with many models offering IPS panels that provide a generally well-balanced performance but are severely lacking in the contrast department. The HP Omen 27qs G2 aims to address this by using an enhanced contrast IPS panel, with double the usual specified contrast ratio for the panel type. The monitor offers fairly minimalistic styling with a simple rectangular stand base and dark matte or brushed texture plastics used throughout. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with fairly slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front. A dedicated power button is also included.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS panel is used with 2000:1 static contrast ratio (double the usual 1000:1), matte anti-glare screen surface and 280Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync support is included, allowing VRR technologies including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used. The monitor is AdaptiveSync Display 280 certified. A matte anti-glare screen surface is adopted, whilst WLED backlighting provides a a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. We expect basic HDR10 support to be included, too. The stand is ergonomically flexible and can be removed using a quick-release mechanism to facilitate 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. A diamond of RGB LED lighting surrounds the stand attachment point, configurable in the OSD or using OMEN Light Studio. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus Type-B upstream).
