The Dell UltraSharp U3425WE follows the recent trajectory shown from this primarily creativity-focused line up, by adopting IPS Black technology for improved contrast and a 120Hz refresh rate for greater fluidity. A simple home-office design is adopted, with satin-finish silver plastic stand and matte black plastic bottom bezel. The top and bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. A separate dedicated power button is also included. The monitor includes an ambient light sensor which can adjust brightness and colour temperature according to ambient lighting.

A simple and smart look

A 34″ LG Display IPS Black panel is used with 3440 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution and 120Hz refresh rate supported. A 2000:1 static contrast is specified rather than the usual 1000:1, with 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour specified. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used and the screen is gently curved to promote viewing comfort. With this in mind a flicker-free WLED backlight is included, with 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut specified and 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance expected. The screen also includes ‘ComfortView Plus’ (TÜV Rheinland certified Low Blue Light Hardware Solution), with the peak of blue light shifted to less energetic wavelengths. Hardware calibration is supported using Dell Color Management (co-developed with Calman) and a compatible colorimeter, allowing you to directly profile the monitor for enhanced colour accuracy regardless of application.

A 5ms grey to grey response time is expected, though this figure is to be approached with the usual caution. The stand includes tilt, swivel and height adjustment (150mm or 5.91 inches) and can be removed using a quick-release mechanism to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI, DP 1.4, 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), USB-C downstream, 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a 3.5mm audio output and ethernet LAN port. A 5th USB 3.2 Gen 2 port plus 2 additional USB-C downstream ports are located at the bottom of the screen, outside the main port area for easy access. KVM is supported, allowing easy USB peripheral sharing and display switching between 2 systems.

A plethora of ports

The monitor is available from February 27th 2024 for ~$1020 USD.
