Further information on supporting our work.Whilst a range of high resolution and high refresh rate monitors are now available, some people seek something a bit simpler (and indeed cheaper). The Dell SE2422H and SE2722H offer Full HD panels in VA flavour, which some will appreciate for uses including movie watching and general desktop usage. The styling is simple and unfussy, without the dual-stage bezel design commonly seen. Instead, a matte black plastic bezel of moderate thickness surrounds the screen without any significant panel border visible. The bezel is thickest at the bottom, with a central silver-coloured manufacturer logo for a bit of contrast. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons on the underside of the bottom bezel, towards the right side.
A 23.8″ (SE24) and 27″ (SE27) VA panel is adopted with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution. A 75Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 75Hz VRR range. A light matte anti-glare screen surface is used, whilst a 3000:1 static contrast ratio is specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight offers a 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and ~sRGB colour gamut. A 5ms (SE24) or 4ms (SE27) grey to grey response time is specified with the fastest setting, but as usual pay little attention to these highly misleading figures. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings including ‘ComfortView’ are included to potentially improve viewing comfort. The stand is tilt-only, attaching towards the bottom of the screen. It can be removed along with a central plastic cover, with 100 x 100mm VESA holes located beneath the cover for alternative mounting. A very basic port selection is included, facing downwards; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 1.4 and VGA.
Further details on the SE24 and SE27 can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The SE24 is listed for ~$120 USD and SE27 for ~$140 USD. In some regions the SE2422HX and SE2722HX are available, which come bundled with a VGA cable.
