Focus in the monitor market has shifted towards 16:9 and wider aspect ratios, with increased resolution and screen size becoming the norm. For some, a ~24″ monitor with 16:10 is still an attractive prospect. The Dell P2421 is a 16:10 member of the company’s ‘Professional’ lineup. The aesthetics are in keeping with other recent launches in the series, a professional and understated home-office appearance. Dual-stage bezels are used which include a slim hard outer component and a panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by pressable buttons at the right end of the bottom bezel, facing downwards. There’s a forward-facing power button with the company’s signature ‘vertical slit’ white power LED design.

Professional and understated

A 24.1″ 1920 x 1200 (16:10) IPS-type (In-Plane Switching or similar) panel is employed, with 60Hz refresh rate. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used with other specifications of note including; a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° horizontal/vertical viewing angles, 5ms grey to grey response time and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used with 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 99% sRGB colour gamut coverage. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings including ‘ComfortView’ are included to enhance viewing comfort and allow blue light output to be minimised at crucial points of the day, such as the hours leading up to sleep. The included stand attaches using a quick-release mechanism and can be replaced by a 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution, if preferred. It includes full ergonomic flexibility, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment. The ports at the rear face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), DP 1.2, HDMI 1.4, DVI, VGA and 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream). 2 additional USB 3.0 ports are located on the left side of the monitor, as viewed from the front.

VESA holes included

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$300.
