Further information on supporting our work.Whilst a lot of focus recently has been on higher resolution screens, for some it makes more sense to simply stick to Full HD. For performance reasons, budget reasons or due to the system or usage. The Dell G2422HS offers this, adopting a high refresh rate 23.8″ Full HD IPS panel with a focus on both speed and colour quality. The monitor is mainly matte black plastic and nothing too extravagant. A shiny silver-coloured logo on the bottom bezel with slight ‘rainbow effect’ offers a dash of colour. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with a slim hard plastic outer part as well as an inner panel border surrounding the image. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and accompanying buttons at the rear, running down the right side as viewed from the front.
A 23.8″ 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) IPS-type panel is adopted. This supports a 165Hz refresh rate, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’ with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 99% sRGB colour gamut. Note the manufacturer sometimes specifies this even for models with a wider gamut than sRGB, such as the S2722QC we’ve reviewed. The monitor includes ‘ComfortView Plus’, referring to the peak of blue light being shifted to less energetic wavelengths to potentially aid viewing comfort (TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution). Alongside the inclusion of the ‘ComfortView’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting for a more relaxing experience, particularly useful in the hours leading up to sleep where blue light exposure should be minimised.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which should be approached with caution as usual. The rear includes central vents to aid passive cooling, a shiny brand logo with slight ‘rainbow effect’ (as with the logo on the bottom bezel) and has central stand attachment with a quick-release mechanism located beneath the attachment point. The stand offers tilt and height adjustment (~100mm or 3.9 inches), whilst it can be removed and an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution used instead. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A hexagonal cable-tidy loop is included towards the bottom of the stand neck.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$278 USD (£262). A 27″ variant is also listed, the G2722HS.
