All three panel types are now represented in this segment, but so far the highest refresh rate IPS options have been restricted to Full HD (1920 x 1080) at most. The Acer XV272U X of the ‘Nitro XV2’ series shakes things up by including a WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. Aesthetics are simple and quite minimalistic, in keeping with other models in the Nitro series. The now popular dual-stage bezel design is employed, with a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen plus a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and some pressable buttons, towards the right side as viewed from in front.
The monitor features a 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) IPS-type panel, more specifically the AUO M270DAN08.0 AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle) panel. A 270Hz refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, including support for AMD FreeSync and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’. A variable refresh rate of 48 – 270Hz with LFC is assumed. Other aspects to note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour output. A flicker-free Quantum Dot LED (Quantum Dots + blue LED) backlight offers a wide colour gamut (99% Adobe RGB) and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote more relaxing viewing. The monitor responds to HDR10 content, offering the most basic HDR level that VESA certifies for (VESA DisplayHDR 400). This doesn’t require local dimming or particularly high luminance levels, but allows the colour gamut to be put to good use and allows 10-bit colour processing to be employed. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which should of course be approached with the usual caution. There is suggestion that this setting is a special mode that may affect screen brightness, indicating a possible strobe backlight mode. The included stand is fully adjustable and attaches using a quick-release mechanism. It can be replaced with an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution, if preferred. Most of the ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, USB Type-C (65W PD), 2 USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 additional USB 3.0 ports are located at the right side, as viewed from in front. 2 x 2W speakers are also included, for basic sound output.
