Further information on supporting our work.High refresh rate Full HD IPS models hit the spot for some, offering a nice combination of colour quality and responsiveness with an easy to drive resolution. The Acer XV241Y X of the Nitro XV2 Series offers this. The monitor has a simple homely design, with weighted round stand base and cylindrical stand neck. This is separated by a red ring for a subtle touch of colour. The top and side bezels are dual stage, with a slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen. And a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
The monitor employs a 23.8″ 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) IPS-type panel. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles are specified alongside 8-bit colour support. A 270Hz refresh rate is supported, with Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync Premium with an assumed 48 – 270Hz VRR range plus LFC. A flicker-free WLED backlight offers 99% sRGB coverage and a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are also included to aid relaxing viewing. The luminance is boosted to a specified 400 cd/m² for HDR10 purposes, with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification included. This allows 10-bit colour processing to be used with the aid of GPU dithering. It’s only a basic HDR level, though, without local dimming or an appropriately generous colour gamut being required.
A 1ms or ‘0.5ms min’ grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual should be approached with caution. We’d expect the VRB (Visual Response Boost) strobe backlight setting to feature, although that hasn’t been specified in the initial marketing material. The screen is fully adjustable, including 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The stand can be removed using a quick-release mechanism to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W speakers are also included, for basic sound reproduction.
Further details are available on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$300 USD. An alternative version with tilt-only stand of different design is also available, the VG241Y X.
