High refresh rates can be very attractive for competitive gameplay. The Acer XB273U F (XB273U Fbmiiprzx) of the Predator series is designed with this in mind, including a QHD resolution and 360Hz refresh rate for detailed and fluid gameplay. The monitor has the usual styling associated with the series, including a coated metal stand base combining with matte black plastics. And a touch of red where the stand base and neck joins. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slim hard plastic outer part. In the central region of the bottom bezel there’s a sensor suite used for the ‘VisionCare 3.0’ features. The screen is able to adjust brightness (‘LightSense’) and colour temperature (‘ColorSense’) according to ambient lighting. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

Predator styling

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used, an AUO AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle) panel more specifically. This is accompanied by a 360Hz refresh rate and ‘full fat’ G-SYNC experience delivered via a G-SYNC module. This provides a VRR experience for compatible Nvidia GPUs as well as via DP Adaptive-Sync for ‘AMD FreeSync’, with effective VRR range of 1 – 360Hz. The monitor also supports ‘Reflex Latency Analyzer’ for those with a compatible Nvidia GPU and mouse, providing in-game system latency readings. The monitor is factory calibrated with specified DeltaE <2 and has a specified 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 600 cd/m²+ HDR peak luminance and 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The monitor is Eyesafe certified by TÜV Rheinland, with the blue peak shifted to less energetic wavelengths and the amplitude of the peak reduced to potentially enhance viewing comfort.

The monitor responds to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 600 level, allowing the monitor to respond to HDR10 content in quite a dynamic way. Including putting the reasonably generous gamut to good use alongside 10-bit colour processing, some good brightness pulses and a degree of local dimming to enhance contrast. Based on the capabilities of the competing ASUS PG27AQN which is based on the same panel, we expect to see ~24 edge-lit dimming zones for a slight situational contrast boost. A 0.4ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t pay much attention to. ULMB 2 also features as a strobe backlight setting to maximise motion clarity. The stand is fully adjustable, including ~115mm (4.5″) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It attaches centrally using a quick release mechanism and can be replaced by a 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution if preferred. The ports face downwards and include; DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and limited USB connectivity (possibly 1 x USB 3.0 plus a dedicated port for Nvidia Reflex). 2 x 2W speakers are also included for basic sound output.

The rear view

The monitor is listed for ~$1100 USD.
