Whilst a lot of market focus is on higher resolutions, fancy backlighting and novel display technologies, some prefer something a bit simpler (and cheaper). The Acer PG241Y P (PG241Y Pbmiipx) is one such offering, in high refresh rate ~24″ Full HD VA flavour. The monitor has a simple homely style, quite a square look with a rectangular stand base and plenty of matte black plastic. The top and side bezels adopt the popular dual-stage design, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slender hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A homely look

The monitor adopts a 23.8″ VA panel with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface – though not specified at time of writing, we’d expect a ~3000:1 static contrast ratio and 178°/178° viewing angles given the panel technology used. A WLED backlight provides an ~sRGB colour gamut and 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The stand is tilt-only, with 100 x 100mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified (put little weight on this figure) using the VRB strobe backlight mode. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
