If you enjoy gaming at high frame rates with strong contrast, VA models with high refresh rates can be an attractive option. The Acer KG251Q Z (KG251Q Zbiip) provides this experience, with a relatively easy to drive Full HD resolution. The monitor has a bit of a ‘gamery’ design with metallic-look red ‘penguin foot’ stand base, contrasting with black plastics for the neck and bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the the front.

Some dashes of colour

24.5″ VA panel with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution is adopted. A 250Hz refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, including AMD FreeSync Premium with a 48 – 250Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is used, whilst a 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour are specified. A WLED backlight provides a 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance is specified, assumed to be flicker-free with ~sRGB colour gamut though that’s not currently specified. A 1ms VRB response time is specified using the included strobe backlight setting – but as usual, pay little attention to this value. The stand provides tilt adjustment as the only ergonomic flexibility. The stand is removable and 100 x 100mm VESA holes are included for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and DP 1.2a. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.

Further confirmed specs when we have them. The monitor is listed for ~$200 USD. A variant with fully adjustable stand and very basic HDR10 support is also listed for a slightly higher price, the XFA253Q Z (XFA253Q Zbiipr).
