Further information on supporting our work. For both work and play, some people enjoy the big screen experience – even at the desk. The ViewSonic VX4381-4K offers this, designed with productivity in mind. The screen has a simple home-office design, with wide and flat rectangular stand base. Matte black plastic is used extensively, including for the bezels surrounding the screen. These are reasonably slim and have a conventional single-stage design with the bezel almost entirely covering the panel border. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and pressable buttons at the rear of the monitor, running down the right side and facing to the right as viewed from the front.
A 42.5″ MVA panel features, with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution and glossy screen surface with very mild anti-glare properties to slightly cut down reflections. The manual mentions an “RGB vertical stripe” subpixel layout rather than the less conventional BGR layout that’s quite common on monitors of this size. Other aspects of note include; a 60Hz refresh rate, 4000:1 specified static contrast and 178°/178° viewing angles. 10-bit colour is supported via 8-bit + FRC, whilst a WLED backlight offers a 450 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and ~sRGB colour gamut. Basic HDR10 support is included, with no VESA DisplayHDR certification. There’s no requirement for local dimming, a particularly high peak luminance or generous colour gamut. The screen can still put its 10-bit colour processing to use and it will give a different look to things for a bit of variety, at least.
A 3ms grey to grey response time is specified, which should be taken with a pinch or two of salt. The included stand offers tilt as the only ergonomic flexibility, with 200 x 100mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting. The ports mainly face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, mDP 1.4, DP 1.4 plus a DP output for MST daisy chaining. 4 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream) are found on the left side. The monitor also includes 2 x 7W speakers for potentially quite rich and powerful sound output. 4-way PbP and PiP functionality is also supported, reinforcing the productivity focus of the screen but potentially useful for other uses as well. A ‘Blue Light Filter’ Low Blue Light (LBL) feature is included to enhance viewing comfort.
Further details can be found on the on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$770 USD.
