Whilst large screens with high resolutions may be attractive to some, smaller Full HD models can be a more practical solution for some. The Gigabyte G24F offers this, with an IPS-type panel on the inside and the usual simple styling elements on the outside. Matte black plastics are mixed with smaller doses of glossy black plastic. The side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen. And a slender hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. Or alternatively using OSD Sidekick software.

Angular low-profile stand base

The monitor adopts a 23.8″ IPS-type panel with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution. We believe this to be the Innolux M238HCA-L7Z more specifically. The monitor has a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour output. A 170Hz refresh rate is supported (165Hz with internal factory overclock), alongside Adaptive-Sync. This includes AMD FreeSync Premium, with a 48 – 170Hz VRR range plus LFC. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used, offering a 90% DCI-P3 (120% sRGB) colour gamut and 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor is certified as ‘Eyesafe’ by TÜV Rheinland, so the blue light peak is shifted to a less energetic wavelength to enhance viewing comfort. The monitor responds to HDR10 content, missing out on any VESA DisplayHDR certification due to its limited maximum brightness. So a very basic HDR experience only, with 10-bit colour processing and the fairly generous colour gamut put to work. A 2ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using Aim Stabilizer strobe backlight technology. The included stand attaches with a quick-release mechanism and offers tilt and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment. It can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.0 ports plus upstream.

A simple rear

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$200 USD (£200). A newer variant of the monitor based on a different panel (from BOE-Panda) is also listed in some regions for ~$160, the G24F 2. This lacks the ‘Eyesafe’ certification of the original model but has a slight bump in refresh rate to 180Hz (OC), 1100:1 specified static contrast and 95% DCI-P3 gamut specified.
