The high refresh rate IPS scene has really been gathering momentum lately. For many the combination of 27″ screen size and 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution remains a happy medium. The Acer XB273U NX offers this experience, with the usual sharp-lined styling elements synonymous with the Predator series to which it belongs. This includes a powder-coated metal stand base and ‘Predator’ logo towards the far left of the bottom bezel. The bottom bezel also houses a central sensor unit, used for some of the manufacturer’s ‘VisionCare 4.0’ suite. This includes ‘LightSense’ and ‘ColorSense’ which allows the monitor to adjust its brightness and colour temperature, respectively, according to ambient lighting. It also houses a proximity sensor to dim or turn off the monitor if nobody is using it, called ‘ProxiSense’. The top and side bezels are dual stage, with a fairly slender panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen. Plus a hard plastic outer edge. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

The monitor uses a 27″ IPS-type panel with 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) resolution. It has a light matte anti-glare finish, with a 1000:1 static contrast and 178°/178° viewing angles specified. The monitor can run at 275Hz via internal factory overclock (240Hz native for panel) and includes support for Nvidia G-SYNC. This is achieved via a dedicated G-SYNC module and includes support for Nvidia’s ‘Reflex Latency Analyzer’ for those interested in the latency of their gaming system. The monitor is factory calibrated with a DeltaE <1 and includes support for 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC). A flicker-free backlight is included which also has a shifted blue peak that's less energetic than usual, as part of the 'Eyesafe' certification by TÜV Rheinland. A typical maximum luminance of 400 cd/m² and 95% DCI-P3 colour space coverage is specified. The screen responds to HDR10 content via VESA DisplayHDR 400, allowing the colour gamut and brightness to be put to good use. Higher luminance peaks and local dimming is noted required, so this is only a basic HDR experience. A 1ms ('0.5ms minimum') grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual pay little attention to those figures. The included stand attaches using a quick release mechanism and offers full adjustability, including 115mm (4.53 inches) of height adjustment. It can be removed and replaced by an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution. A perimeter of 'AdaptiveLight' RGB LEDs is found at the rear, which can respond to audio passed through the monitor, content on the screen or simply customised to your liking. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (external power brick), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, 3.5mm audio output, 3 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream) and 1 USB 2.0 port. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.
