Further information on supporting our work. The push towards high refresh rate IPS panels is now in full swing, with a range of sizes and resolutions available. The Acer XV240Y P (XV240Y Pbmiiprx), of the Nitro XV0 series, is an affordable Full HD offering with the high refresh rate IPS panel combination in mind. Aesthetics are simple, in keeping with others in the series. There is a ring of red plastic where the stand neck and base attaches, with black plastic used elsewhere. The bottom bezel is textured, whilst the top and side bezels are dual stage stage. This means they offer a slender panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen, plus a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by pressable buttons and a joystick at the rear of the monitor, running down the bottom of the right side as viewed from in front.
The monitor uses a 23.8″ IPS-type panel, based around the same 23.8″ Panda FFS (Fringe-Field Switching) panel used in various others such as the AOC 24G2(U). This has a 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° horizontal/vertical viewing angles and 8-bit colour support (6-bit + FRC dithering). The monitor supports a 165Hz refresh rate (factory overclock), with Adaptive-Sync including AMD FreeSync Premium supported (48 – 144Hz range plus LFC). A medium matte anti-glare screen surface is used for good glare handling. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used with 99% sRGB colour space coverage and 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor offers basic HDR support – it will respond to HDR10 content, but lacks a suitable colour gamut, luminance level or any local dimming. ‘BlueLightShield’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to enhance viewing comfort. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the included VRB (Visual Response Boost) strobe backlight setting. The included stand offers tilt and height adjustment and can be removed using a quick release mechanism to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes. The ports face downwards and include; DP 1.2a, 2 HDMI ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is available for ~$200.
