There are a broad selection of 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) models available with high refresh rates. IPS-type panels are popular choices due to their vibrant and consistent colour output plus respectable responsiveness. The ViewSonic XG2705-2K is one such option, a new addition to the XG series of gaming monitors. The monitor has a homely look rather than being overtly ‘gamery’, with a flat stand base with a mixed-texture matte black plastic finish. The top and side bezels are dual stage, with a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen plus a slender hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by pressable buttons, facing downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.

Not overtly 'gamery'

The monitor adopts a 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) IPS-type panel with matte anti-glare screen surface and 144Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync Premium with a 48 – 144Hz VRR range (plus LFC). 10-bit colour is supported via 8-bit + FRC dithering, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and viewing angles are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight is employed, offering a 96% DCI-P3 (131% sRGB) colour gamut and 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. ‘Blue Light Filter’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to enhance viewing comfort. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the ‘1ms Mode’ strobe backlight setting, an option available when Adaptive-Sync is not in use. The stand offers full ergonomic flexibility, whilst it can be removed and replaced by an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA solution if preferred. The ports face downwards and include; AC input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.

A simple rear
