For those seeking a monitor for general desktop use, including a bit of gaming and video watching, high refresh rate VA options can appeal. The ViewSonic VX2718-2KPC-MHD is one such offering. The monitor has minimalistic styling with a Y-shaped stand base, dark matte black plastics used extensively and slim top and side bezels. These top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and a slender hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons that face downwards beneath the central area of the bottom bezel.
A 27” 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) VA panel is adopted with 1500R curve designed to draw you in a bit. We believe this to be the SG2701G01-1 from CSOT. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, whilst a 4000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles are specified. 8-bit colour is supported (6-bit + FRC) and a 165Hz refresh rate is supported. Adaptive-Sync also features, including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. The monitor includes a WLED backlight which offers ~sRGB colour space coverage and a 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using the included ‘1ms Mode’ strobe backlight setting which can be used in place of Adaptive-Sync if you wish. As usual you shouldn’t pay much attention to these figures as they can be highly misleading. The included stand is tilt-only, although 75 x 75mm VESA holes are included for alternative mounting. The ports face backwards in a recessed area up and to the right of the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$272 USD.
