The 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution is a comfortable intermediate between 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) and 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD). For users seeking a fairly high pixel density without wanting to step up to higher resolutions (such as UHD), 23.8” WQHD screens represent a nice compromise. The ViewSonic VG2455-2K makes use of such a panel, combining it with an ergonomically flexible but modern-looking design. A ‘3-sided thin bezel’ design is used, or what we like to call a ‘dual-stage bezel’ design. This means that there is a slim hard outer plastic bezel as well as a slender panel border visible around the image when the monitor is on. Even with both components considered, though, the bezel area is very slim at the top and sides. The bottom bezel is thicker and includes pressable OSD (On Screen Display) control buttons towards the bottom right, facing forwards. The bottom bezel is a dark grey colour, whilst the stand is a mixture of various grey tones and matte black plastic.

A mixed palette of greys

A 23.8” IPS-type (In Plane Switching or similar) panel is used, with a 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. A matte anti-glare screen surface is employed to aid glare handling, whilst a1000:1 static contrast and 178°/178° horizontal/vertical viewing angles are specified. The monitor supports true 8-bit colour, without dithering, representing a positive change from the 6-bit + FRC used on some of the older 23.8” WQHD IPS-type models (like the Dell P2416D). A flicker-free WLED backlight is used, offering ~sRGB colour space coverage and a 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A ‘Blue Light Filter’ (flexible Low Blue Light or LBL settings) is included to aid relaxing viewing, particularly useful in the evening where exposure stimulating blue light should be minimised. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual should not be taken at face value.

Good ergonomic flexibility
