Dell SE2716H with curved VA panel
Samsung in particular have been pushing for monitors of various sizes with a gentle curve to the screen. This is generally a very subtle inclusion, designed to make the viewing experience a little more natural and comfortable by reducing the distance between the edges of the screen and your eyes. The Dell SE2716H embraces this trend, featuring a similar curved Vertical Alignment (VA) panel to that used on the likes of Samsung S27E510C. The bezel is very thin on this model (7.7mm), adopting the 2-stage design encompassing a very slim hard outer bezel and a fairly thin panel border. The stand shape also accentuates the gentle curve of the monitor.
The panel used is believed to be a 60Hz 27” Samsung curved MVA (Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment) panel with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution. This is interesting given Dell’s dominant use of LG Display panels on most recent models. A typical brightness of 300 cd/m² is specified with a 3000:1 static contrast ratio and 178/178° specified viewing angles. Assuming we’re right about the panel being used, the screen surface is medium (some may call it ‘relatively light’) matte anti-glare whilst true 8-bit colour is supported without dithering. A WLED backlight is used which offers ~sRGB coverage. Again to be approached with caution, a 6ms grey to grey response time is specified using the ‘Fast’ response time setting, with a ‘Normal’ option also available with more gentle grey to grey acceleration. The ports of the monitor include; 2 HDMI (with MHL) VGA, 3.5mm headphone jack and 3.5mm audio input. There are also two 9W down-firing speakers, quite powerful for integrated monitor speakers and producing a potentially richer sound than most integrated solutions. The included stand offers tilt as the only ergonomic adjustment option and there are no VESA holes.
A rather bare rear
Further information on this model can be found on certain regional Dell websites (such as their Hong Kong one. The monitor is now available for under $330 in the US and for under £220 inc. VAT in the UK. We will possibly review this if there is sufficient interest in the model.
