Some users enjoy the immersion provided by a large screen at the desk, or prefer to enjoy the experience from a little further back. The ASUS XG43UQ of the ROG Strix series delivers this experience, with a ‘4K’ UHD resolution providing a respectable pixel density at the same time. As usual for large monitors, it has a TV-like appearance with long powder-coated metal stand providing solid footing to the expansive screen. The top and side bezels are reasonably slim, with the panel border hidden by a dark matte plastic bezel. For a bit of extra visual interest, a ‘Light Signature’ projector that projects a red ROG logo (or design of your choice) onto your desk. As usual this can be disabled if you prefer. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and accompanying buttons at the rear of the monitor, running vertically down the right side as viewed from the front.

Plenty of ROG goodness

A 43″ ‘4K’ UHD (3840 x 2160) VA panel is employed, with matte anti-glare screen surface. A 144Hz refresh rate is supported, with Adaptive-Sync also offered. This includes AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with a 48 – 144Hz VRR range (plus LFC). A 4000:1 (SDR) static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles are expected based on the panel and capabilities of this model’s predecessor. The monitor is factory calibrated with an average DeltaE <2, whilst 10-bit colour support is included. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used with 1000 cd/m²+ supported for HDR purposes and 90% DCI-P3 (125% sRGB) colour gamut. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings will also feature to aid relaxing viewing. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified, a high HDR level which allows it to put its high luminance and decent colour gamut to good use, as well as 10-bit colour processing and local dimming. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the ELMB Sync strobe backlight setting – this can be used alongside Adaptive-Sync, if you wish. The included stand is tilt-only, whilst 100 x 100mm VESA holes are found for alternative mounting. The ports are found beneath a removable cover cover to the left of the stand attachment point or above this, unconcealed facing to the left. These; a 3.5mm audio input, 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports and DP 1.4 (with DSC). 2 x 10W speakers are also expected to be included, for fairly powerful sound output.

A striking white rear
